| The new UK Food Standards (back). |
The introduction of HACCP in January 2006 has necessitated
a revison of current UK food training and new standards
have been introduced.
The old "Basic Food Hygiene" no longer exists
and has been replaced. By incorporating HACCP into the learning
standards have re-emerged as the new "Level 2 Food
Safety Awards". These awards are now divided into occupational
areas in Manufacture, Catering and Retail. Similarly the
awareness level one is also divided into Manufature, Catering
and Retail.
There are also clear guidelines as to who should do the
level 1 and the level 2 in food safety.
Food Safety Level 1 - this awareness level award is for:
Those who handle wrapped foods.
Those who handle foods that do not need
to be
kept hot or in a refrigerator.
Those who need to enter food premises
but do not
handle the food e.g. delivery
personnel, cleaners,
and maintenance staff.
As an induction for those entering the
food industry.
Courses at this level include:

of food handlers who handle all food whether open or packaged,
temperature controlled or drinks.

certificate,or as part of
a wider course of training
(e.g. NVQ's).

progressing to the level 2.
